600rpm w/ a big prop could really lurch a light weight boat, no? Maybe you'd need a trolling valve for slippage? |
Yes it will jump pretty hard, a trolling valve really helps.
The little Malestrom we had the Cummins in with direct drive jumped pretty good. It's was almost like a crash box, in gear for a second and pull it out, it would go pretty fast if left in gear. That's why i always like the little props turning faster, they don't grab so hard, you get better top end but you do loose slower cruising speeds. |

Single w/diesel
Hustler did build a 26 with a single Yanmar 315 HP ran low 50's top end. Talked with the factory yesterday and he would do it again or if you wanted they would do it in the new 29 Rockit also. Speed in the 29 would be about the same due to a more efficent bottom than the 26. Low 50's top end and cruise in the mid 40's. Call or PM me if you need any more assitance.

HH - I usally don't try to disrespect someone but if Hustler can only get that kind of speed, they are doing something wrong. I'm guessing there is more HP available then they are putting to the water.
Do you know anything about the 39 Rocket they had at the Miami show? I saw it on 440 going back to LI and on their facebook page i asked a few questions about gearing etc but did not get an answer - just curious how that boat was set-up? |

RIK - your right, I'm looking at it from how I dock a boat. I almost never needed throttle even on my big boats, the 34' SH we had with the 1.15:1 you never needed to ever give that boat any throttle to dock. I think the trolling valves could have been an asset with that boat?
But, you are right the trolling valves can't take too much power. |

Look at anyone's boat on here that runs a 100mph, and calculate the prop speed. If it was possible to do it by turning the prop slow then everyone on here from Fred K himself would do it, but they don't. A diesel is not magic a boat responds to prop dia, pitch speed, drive height, etc - the boat knows not whether it has gas or diesel power in it. Too many people don't follow the same basic principles of how they set-up a gas boat and that is the only reason the diesel boats don't go better than they do!:drink: |
