Sorry to hear about your issue. I have an '87 with the "Magnum" and Alpha combo - it runs fine, but I've often wondered how I would upgrade later on if I chose to do so.

I was wondering what kind of HP and speeds you were looking to get out of the boat when you're done. I've heard the "hook" at the rear of the hull on the 242 can limit speeds somewhat...

I've known of many a 330hp engine that got a 177 blower bolted on and ran perfect for a good long time. Its actually the best thing you can do to get them to make good power. If you are rebuilding it you just make sure to use good head gaskets, good rod bolts, maybe some head studs and inconnel exhaust valves. Open up the ring gaps a lot and whala. Stong running mill. Not like bolting a 177 on a 365hp mag engine but probably get you 10mph anyway.

Century, sorry to hear about your issue. That really sucks. FWIW a 330hp Merc is generally worth about $800-1300 complete without accessories. A used 370 Mag generally runs $2200-3000 from my experience.

Blue - What kind of power do you think it would make? And I assume that they run upgraded rec. port heads? I don't think I would do it, but it sounds interesting...

I would guess 80-100hp with no other changes. The blower will crutch up the heads cam and exhaust. It would be a susbstantial improvement over the 330hp. And if you've got the parts, why not. Just don't go crazy with boost or rpm.

I bought a running 454 mag that isnt turning out to be in the best shape soits looking like i might be buying pistons so i may as well lower compression some right? What part #/brand pistons should i be looking for Im still using stock mag heads but with the inconel valves. I cant get a break with this thing......Thanks

I would probably try and get some JE SRP pistons that would get the comp ratio down around 8.0-8.25 or so.
