780 hr 454 oil consumption??

Just bought a 90 pq 290 enticer with twin 454 with 780 hours on each, bought last oct and have had boat out several times. I have noticed that the starboard engine uses way too much oil than i would like, the port don't use any. I haven't performed compression test to compare to other engine yet but did pull plugs and some look great and others are oil fouled. They do have aftermarket edelbrock intakes and im thinking that maybe oil is being sucked into engine by leaking intake runners or maybe valve seals. Im not yet ready to do a repower on this new boat. My question is this, when and if i do a tear down do i have to use "marine" gasket sets such as intake, exhaust, vc's and valve seals or can i get away with ones from any gm 454???? Im hoping to get away just a good reseal and get rid of this oil slick that follows me everwhere i go. It is using about 1-1.5 qrts after several hours of running during the day. I can look into the exhaust tips and see all the white oily sludge mixing with water, It isn't a cracked oil cooler, it is coming through or out of the combustion chambers, but don't look like all of them, maybe just a few. I will know more about the health of the bore after the compression test. any info would be greatly appreciated on the matter. Thankyou

A compression test and leak down will tell the tale I'm sure. Best of luck

Head gaskets need to be marine (compatible with salt water) and the other gaskets oil pan, intake, etc are automotive. You could run a auto head gasket if you could insure that the engine would never see salt water. The marine is not that much more.

well, as of right now, im not planning on pullling the heads, hopefully just intake and valve seals. I plan on doing the compression and leak down tests. The boat will never be in salt water as long as i own it, but i get a discount on all my parts so probably will go with the marine gaskets. Thanks for the info..
