What is the difference between the Blue and Black motors? The Blue motors are Mercury Racing, did they use better parts? Did they make more horsepower than advertised? My new boat is coming with Blue HP500 carb engines.

That's all I can think of & they were all black pre-1992/3 I think. The HP465 was a bad-a$$ motor. It did have a very snotty cam, although it was not a roller-cammed motor it did have Crane Gold roller-rockers and 2.25/1.88 valves with a 800 Holley carb. We had one in a 226ES Baja back in the day. Nice motor. Got lots of attention at the docks with the cam it had. There was a 800EFI also that, along with the 1000SC was sold as a "race only engine". The 800EFI had a Hillborn style injection setup on it and Pontiac style heads (I think) |

When did they come out with the 1000SC motor and when did they stop making it. Also what makes it a race motor what does it have.
