Canopy Safety latch

What do you all do for canopy latches. I see this one from Tiger:

http://store.tigerperformance.com/safety-latch-kit.aspx

but contrary to their website, after you buy the latch, then you have to buy the pin and the lanyard. What I thought was $110 each (times 4) ended up being like $170 each

Any other ideas out there?

Do you really want a bargain on something so important?

Just wanted to make certain that there was not another option out there. It kind of pissed me off that they show it and price it as a kit (latch, pin, lanyard), but then invoice it individually. Look at the website.

If there is not a better option, I will probably buck up to it.

Jeff, not sure about your bat, but ours used long rubber straps that looped over pins on the outside and inside so the door could be opened from either side. Not the best latch but the doors arent the strongest either. GlassDave probably knows where to get the straps.

After all the fatalities due to canopy failure, how in God's name can we have aany kind of conversation around saving money in that area? If you don't use the best hinges and latches that money can buy....... at least spend what you save on life insurance for your family.

I understand, and like I say, I will probably end up buying them, it was just a huge sticker shock. I am sure that you have looked at the website to see what I expected the "kit" to be, just to find out that it was not a "kit".

My boat is equipped with the same latches as all of the US built boats. I just think that the latches on the European boats look like a better, safer, setup. I was just looking for options. I will not be racing the boat at all.

That all said, I sure appreciate you looking out for me!

In truth I am. To me your options are to buy from Sonny Hawkins (Tiger) or have a machine shop make you up some billet pieces according to current safety guidelines. Neither one is cheap.

The other and equally important issues are the mounting of the canopy itself and the material used in its construction.

Why not also talk about going 160 and flipping over without a canopy...

Or no restraints in a collision even without boats flipping...
