If mine sits for over a month they are a little hard. but only if they sit that long. if that happens, push throttle all the way fwd and start, then bring back once they start. dont pump throttles. when was the last time you changed your plugs?

Hot starts, cold starts, both????
How are you starting them??? When cold, give the throttle a couple pumps and then turn the key.

First thing to check is if the chokes are working properly.

i crank mine over a few times before i even touch the throttles, helps prime the oil system's and gives the carbs a chance to fill up..Then pump a few times and then they fire..

switching to electric fuel pump will more than likely solve the issue. The one I had also had a Barry Grant Mighty Marine Demon on top and that might have helped too. It could sit for months on end and all I ever had to do was turn the key, let the fuel pump prime, pump the throttle twice, and start. It actually started quicker than my current 6.2 MPI's.

Timng should be set at 12* for base timing and it should advance to 32* above 3000rpms.

14 deg at idle with 34 deg total advance. To set at idle you need to short the white/purple wire to ground.

I take it that this disables the advance. Is this one of the wires going to the distributor? Does the connection need to be broken and then which end gets grounded?
