Canal Day Death?

Heard somebody died at Canal Day, any truth to that?

PhantomChaos 06-25-2011 12:23 AM

Wtf is that?

Panther 06-25-2011 06:42 AM

I sure hope it's not true. I thought that was today though?

The few people I talked too said I am better off staying away. Any truth to that?

Nort, it's a big raft-up party on the C+D Canal from what I am told. It's about 10 minutes from my new home.

It's true

I can't give too many facts since I didn't see the body, but sometime in the early evening someone went in the water and didn't come out until after 9pm. There were rumors flying all over the place, but the consensus it that a (probably drunk) non swimmer jumped into the water from their boat.

The coast guard was there for sometime including a helicopter with the night sun helping out. The looked all around the marina only to find him directly below where he jumped.

I'm assuming out of respect, the Chesapeake Inn closed down part of the bar and had the band take a break during the recovery.

It sort of starts Thursday or Friday, it keeps getting earlier each year.

I personally would not take a nice performance boat there like yours. There are a whole lot of drunk, non-boating, non-caring people, and it is a mob scene.

RIP to the victim.

Delaware man dies in Md. boating accident
By David Marino-Nachison
CHESAPEAKE CITY, Md. — A Delaware man has died after a boating accident in Chesapeake City.

Maryland Natural Resources Police say 27-year-old Robert Vernon Baron, of Bear, Del., died after falling into the water after jumping from a docking boat onto a pier.

The accident occurred around 8:25 p.m. Friday at the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal.

Two other people could not find Baron after jumping into the water after him. His body was recovered by divers around 10:15 p.m. and taken to the medical examiner’s office in Baltimore.

Officials say this is the tenth boating fatality of the year in Maryland

This is the most shocking part of that statement Scott, and it's not even July yet. And now I just read this article about an incident on Barnegat Bay. Very Sad.
