Default Project: Remaking Speed Racer

An in-depth look at an incredible project, http://speedonthewater.com/boat-rest...eed-racer.html.

On the surface, Speed Racer looks much like it did the day it came out of MTI. The truth is it's a completely different boat.

Thanks a ton, Dean. What blows me away is that to look at the boat you would never know how extensive the work on it was. Any project that involves "removing and relocating stringers" qualifies as big in my book.

Randy Scism and the guys at MTI are good. Seriously good.

Guess I should have kept that one, It was fun designing and building it the first time.

There is a photo in the story of the six-person cockpit, but there are no photos of the work in process. Too bad because they would have made a great addition.

Yeah, that would have been very cool. And probably a little scary for the owner to see what it looked like to have the guts ripped out of the back half of his boat.

Randy Scism told me he'd done "10 or 11" cockpit conversions like this to turn race boats into pleasure boats. I guess it's not enough of a big deal for them to slow down and take photos of the process.

Hey Matt,

Those look like pictures of Ron Potters 1300/1500HP engines. Are those detuned larger HP engines? I know it says remapped and smaller injectors but those were much more than 1000hp originally. I might be wrong.

Thanks
