Raylar I thought that the idea with the 20-50 mobile 1 was that it DID have the zinc?

I’m no rocket scientist when it comes to oil but I find Mobil 1 10W40 everywhere I turn my head. Is 10W40 not good to run in 496 HO’s or what?

As for Mobil 1 a good choice would be the Mobil 1 V-twin 20-50W which has a much better wear package in the blend. there are also other good synthetics out there such as Amsoil, etc., that have good blends for marine performance use so try not to be to "penny wise and dollar foolish" in your oil purchasing and use. Just a suggestion.

Ray, the Mobil 1 15W50 does still have the 1200 ppm zinc/ 1300 ppm phos that it has always had. I have verified this with M1 tech support, it is published on the website, and my last oil analysis showed above 1200 ppm zinc - after 40 hours!.

The other more commonly available M1 products do have less zinc, but not the 15W50.

Question

I just did an oil change the other day and used 10w40 because that was all I could find. Now am I going to hurt anything. Should I drain the oil and get 15w50? 496 HO's

You should be fine. Run it for 25 hours, then change it.
