Default Is Your Boat Longer Than 39.4'?

I was researching some citations for another thread and came across a little bit of information that was new to me, and something I don't think I've ever seen mentioned on here.

"...all vessels that are 39.4 feet or larger are required by federal law to have a copy of this book [USCG Navigational Rules] on their vessel at all times."
http://www.auxguidanceskills.info/press/bigger.html

You can buy a hard-copy or download it from the following link and print it out:
http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/pdf/navRu..._published.pdf

Yep, part of the USCG safety check that we get every year for my 400SS... They ask for it, got mine @ West Marine.

Got it. I'm getting ready to purchase a straight bottom 38 Cig TG and it is probably pretty close.....probably about 10-12" short. I'll have to look. Thanks for the info.

According the to CG, RULE 3J
"The words “length” and “breadth” of a vessel means her length overall and greatest breadth."

That means everything - bow pulpit to swimstep - not just hull.
