And the Ramp in April of 2010...They actually had to close the ramp because the water was too high, causing the ramp to be too shallow to launch (not enough grade angle)

These photos show the "gully" just east of the Heritage launch ramp...From dry to over flowing.... Where once there was a cliff to the water, then no water at all...The water level rose to the point to could jump of the two foot grass line to water!
(Note, the "dry" photos are taken looking west while the "wet" pics are taken looking east from the opposite side of the gully)
Also, I don't have pics of the water at the roadways edge. But to give you an ideal of how much more the water rose, the small patch of concrete in the 3rd photo is what the residence were forced to use as a launch ramp when the normal ramp was under water!

The pics are kind've deceiving....For example, the last time this lake was near this high was in 05. By 09 is was nearly dry due to a few very bad years regarding rain fall and the fact the county dumped a bunch of water to repair and raise the dam.
But after a couple dry years, one wet season brought this lake to life. The level is still high and wer're nearing the rainy season. Basically, with decent (average or even less than average) rain fall this lake will be full (ish) for a long time, even if there are some dry years in between.
And yes, the crappy economy coupled with the fact the lake was receading did put a large hit on the lake homes. Houses that were 1-2 mil in Oak Shores are now well under 1 mil. Modular homes in Heritage that were 5-800k can be bought for 200k and below. But the market does flucuate with the rise and fall of the lake. However, the locals just blow it off and say they'll get their dirt bikes, quads and Rhino's out when there's no water in the lake bed!

This is just a copy and past but this is by houston on lake conroe and the sad is there releasing 150 MILLION GALLONS a day!!! we are at 195.26ft and normal pool is 201ft. The north side of the lake is shut down on ramps. theres only like 2 to 3 ramps open that i know of.

Ha, well, I'm actually a greenie/tree-hugger myself. It's true, you can be a tree-hugger and still be into performance boats. I explain to my tree-hugger friends that I (unlike them) actually KNOW the exact size of my carbon footprint, and even with my power boats it's a hell of a lot lower than theirs (for a number of reasons). And I even drive a big truck. But they tend to magically forget all about that anyway when it's time to go out on the boat. :-)
But yeah, to your point, it (lake Travis) tends to get exaggerated and over-hyped because it makes a good story. Like someone else posted - it went down to 615 in 1954. We're no where near that yet.
Having said all of that, there are some places, and not far from there that are suffering a lot. And our cattle industry has taken a huge hit.
