Thanks, Scarab. So much had already been written about these events that I couldn't "cover" them in a relevant and timely way. But the bigger picture, at least as I see it, is that despite this pathetic excuse for economy and hard times in the high-performance marine market, the people who own boats are still getting out there and doing cool stuff. I love it.

Thanks Matt. Really appreciate the positive outlook.

Don't forget about the free event coming up in Florida in October OFF 2012. Anyone who loves offshore racing can come and meet the real veterans of the sport....Odell Lewis, Brownie, Sam James, Sonny Miller, Steve Sirois, Bobby Saccenti...etc.etc.etc.

A great time was had by all the last few years and it can only get better.

My positive outlook, as you call it, is genuine. Even with a schedule conflict with an OPA race, you guys had a decent turnout. I see it as nothing but positive, much in the same way I see the Bimini Offshore Challenge. For your event and that one, scheduling has proven difficult. There are only so many weekends during the boating season, right?

Nice job to all involved.

Thumbs up

"Editor’s Note: Special thanks to photographer Tim Sharkey who covered two of these events—and would have been at all three if he could have cloned himself."

Thanks Matt !

I was actually considering covering the Race Around Long Island when it was originally scheduled for Saturday. 3 of my sponsors had boats in that event. Once I read that it was rescheduled for 2012 I adjusted my schedule accordingly. I then came to learn it was back on but with the conflict of being the same day as the OPA Race. I already committed to the promoter in Solomon's that I would be there so there was not backing out on my word. Covering the two events was certainly challenging. I started in Jersey City on Tuesday afternoon and ended up in Delaware on Thursday afternoon. Drove back to NJ that night and back on the road @ 2:00 AM with no sleep to make the race on Sunday in Maryland. Had a photo shoot for Hering/Geico 1st thing Monday morning and now back to my day job today....

Is the season over yet ????

Great write up as usual...

Thanks again !!!
