Wow, Doc Magoon MIA - NYC 1,257 miles in 22.68 hrs = 55.4 MPH.

Also I see on Stan Wares website in 1984 Popeyes Offshore Racing Team did it in 20.5 hrs for an average of 61.1 MPH.

Both amazing accomplishments. Anyone know what the current record is ?

Bob

Just listening for right now. I'm glad to see the race took place this year regardless of all the BS that was going around on the net. From what I can see, great job Charlie and everyone else involved, and thanks to those that are still around that remember the good old days and what went on back then.

Looking forward to being able to come out and do this one of these days.

Again thanks to all involved for keeping this sport alive.

I agree that this kind of endurance racing needs to be put back in place.

Looking forward to seeing what happens in the future.

I can hear you thinking and planning from here...........

How about a nice addition to both...... setting a new Miami - New York record and then doing an Around Long Island race......Bob that might be a record that would never be broken.

Gentry did Miami-NY in 18:15, then set the NY/England record of (I think) 58:22.

He, he. Nice to dream about Charlie. It would be really tough for me to match the Gentry time that Brownie pointed out with my current equipment. May be time for an upgrade soon. Looks like that is about 68.8 MPH for the MIA - NYC run.
I have been intrigued for some time now about doing a run from Key West to New Orleans almost 800 miles up the middle of the Gulf. Don't think that has ever been done so has some appeal. That would need to be a summer time run so maybe next summer. We will see.

I remember seeing Tom's boat at Cape Coral when he was there for races many years ago. He was a true gentleman and I will never forget seeing his terrible accident in Key West.
I had no idea the boat was for sale. I found the following info in the link you posted:

Transatlantic crossing record
Ambrose Lighthouse at the entrance to New York Harbor to
Bishop Rock on England's Isles of Scilly.
Boat: Gentry Eagle
Record time: 62 hours & 7 minutes

CHAPMAN TROPHY
Miami to New York
Boat: Gentry Eagle
Record time: 19 hours & 17 minutes

ROUND TRIP
Miami - Nassau (Bahamas) - Miami
Boat: Gentry Eagle
Record time: 5 hours & 20 minutes

While your at it call the NFL and convince them to go back to leather helmets.
