I would go for option 2.
You could buy my 38 V hull that has a stand up cuddy at 5'7, small galley, enclosed head (keeps the wife and kids happy), hot and cold water, heat and air, will run 80-85 mph, and still have some money left over for gas!!
Probably won't lose a whole lot of cash when you decide to sell...

Brett : This is really a lifestyle question. Do you want to keep the cruiser and spend another $ 25+ k a year on a boat? The cruiser is comfy but slow. The Skater fast but really no room. So it really comes down to what you want to spend and what you and the family wants.

I have 2 options:
1. Trade my 3 month old Sea Ray cruiser on a 40ft Skater
2. Keep my cruiser (which I like) and spend $150,000 on a performance boat.
I won't be doing any boating until May so I have some time. Option 1 I can do anytime and the deal is "done". I just have to say "yes"
Option 2 may be the smarter thing to do since this is my first go fast boat and probably keeps my family happier.

How about go for a used ballz out 38ZR Donzi with twin staggered 700s and NXTs? Hotted up '97 - '05 Top Gun? You might pick one of those up for 1-fitty.

If your go-fast time is going to include weekends at the LOTO, I would keep the cruiser and move up to 40' + V. Plenty of fun options in that price range and your family and your back will thank you.

I dont think a 40 skater would make a good 1st performance boat.Cats, especially a Big Powered 40Skater take a lot of experience to handle safely, this is why Most insurance carriers Require Cat experience.I would buy a Cigarette or Fountain or other V ,gain some experience & Take Tres performance school amd then transition over to a Skater. If your determined to Start off with a Big Powered 40 Skater as your 1st Performance Boat ,have your Estate in order and a Big Life insurance policy.
