If you had $150,000 to spend on a boat.....
I have 2 options:
1. Trade my 3 month old Sea Ray cruiser on a 40ft Skater
2. Keep my cruiser (which I like) and spend $150,000 on a performance boat.
I won't be doing any boating until May so I have some time. Option 1 I can do anytime and the deal is "done". I just have to say "yes"
Option 2 may be the smarter thing to do since this is my first go fast boat and probably keeps my family happier.
I have lost plenty of money on toys and hobbies over the past few years so I would expect to find a bargain now. I have time to search and make real offers (have cash).
This would not be a boat I would expect to keep more than a few years so I don't want anything that is off brand or going to be hard to move. I do expect to lose money when I sell it. As we all know, this is a hobby not an investment.

Buying a 40 Skater, in my opinion is an investment. A huge one, considering they cost more than alot of houses...
I've seen enough of them in person, and talked to their owners, and its crazy how much money per/year they spend to run and maintain those beautiful machines.... All the 40 Skaters i've seen in the classifieds are well over 150k..

I'll say it before anyone else does - if this is your first Performance Boat INSURANCE could be outrageous for you.
Either way though - I would go for option 2. It's the perfect combination to play on the water with.

Yes Skater insurance will be $13,000 first year.
Have budgeted $30,000-$50,0000/year for Skater (engine reserves, maint, etc)
I guess I should have labeled the thread "Find me the best boat money can buy for $150,000" That's really the question I'm asking.

I would go for option 2.
You could buy my 38 V hull that has a stand up cuddy at 5'7, small galley, enclosed head (keeps the wife and kids happy), hot and cold water, heat and air, will run 80-85 mph, and still have some money left over for gas!!
Probably won't lose a whole lot of cash when you decide to sell...
