From the e-mail they sent out last night:
Thank you for your patience as we’ve worked through an important and productive period of development during the past five months. We want our motors to perform as promised as we move toward production.
With that goal in mind, the team has been working diligently on the 557 since Miami 2011 and we’re now ready to share some exciting design updates and, yes, some performance data with you...
Design updates, driven by customer requests for a wide range of applications, have resulted in the flexibility to adjust the overall outboard ratio, making the 557 well suited for nearly any high horsepower application... Want to go fast? Want to push a big, heavy boat? Want to dial in your economy at cruise? The 557 has you covered.
Next, we updated the cooling system's heat exchangers and increased cooling capacity by beefing up the water pumps to ridiculous levels.
Tweaking our overboard exhaust system resulted in a throaty, classic V8 growl that will turn heads when it starts, yet is subtle and pleasing at idle, and remarkably quiet through the power band.
Now for the stuff you’ve all been asking about... We’ve been conducting sea trials, starting with a single 557 on a 30ft. test boat which performed so well that we upgraded to twin 557s on the incredible Intrepid 370. Test Conditions on a typical run last month, with Air Temp 67F, Water Temp 62F, Wind 9kts, 2-3’ Seas, 245 Gals of Fuel, 4 People on board, resulted in speeds in the mid-70's.
