I love the LS motors for a hot rod but they have their limitations compared to a BBC.
6.2ltr and below will handle the boost but on a 27+ foot boat do you want to cruise in boost....sucks fuel and kills the valves. So you want to increase the CI...not much room on the bore so you spend big money on a longer stroke crank that the block will accept but flexes the since it is alum...then you go for an iron block (like ilmor) and you find that you are limited on thin deck heads for the boost so you spend more money on an LSX iron block with 6 bolt heads...piston oilers, better rods, better valves....when you are done you have an engine that will live in a boat at 800hp....could have bought a 598 ci NA BBC.
its a good engine choice in NA form for a 27+ ft boat when you cant fit BBC's or you need to lighten up the transom....
JIMKID has an awesome setup but i am sure that the price tag for those little monsters is very much inline with the brand boat.
LS comes up as a price and reliabilty thing....my opinion is that 500hp and below or in a small boat that is true. above 500hp BBC is still the way to go.

I am doing a build for myself over the next year or so on a 27 Mag and considering LS's now. Plan to stay under 500 hp no prob, my original target hp was 450. What are my pro's and con's with the LS? What exhaust is available and how much $$$?

I have been giving it some thought ,a pair of those in my 36 Cat and #6 Arnesons that weigh 157 # Spin one engine CW is all ,balances the boat perfect.
The thing is weight (you can recover with HP but pay a fuel price) and those motors are LIGHT, Lookin at this thread and the drawings are on my wall (as a Keep sake) from this boat and 2 1/2 times the power with great reliblity gives me some thought!!

When i race a 30 DW i thought that would be a sick boat with a pair of hot small blocks and Arnesons as well but how bout a twist Steve. How bout a bustle and rudder with fixed Arnesons?

Great Idea,That would work and eliminate cylinders (weight)on the Arnesons, and the drives need someting over them anyway,Platform or whatever.

saw those at the IBEX show, pretty much stopped me in my tracks. Those headers look expen$$$ive
Not looking for that though, i am simply looking to build under 500HP for a nice reliable runner. Personally i dont need 1200+ HP in a 27. Also not looking to buy engines i have a builder in mind already that is well up to the task. Right now i am just looking at options on the various LS blocks/heads/induction available and wondering what is the best starting point.
