affordable engine block shipping?

i am trying to work out a deal on a bare block in florida, i need it shipped to nebraska though. anyone have any ideas on cheap shipping? R&L quoted me 303 bucks. i had a short block shipped though them a couple years ago for 250 that weighed twice as much. :(

I ship 650 lb. items weekly. I use Freightcenter.com It's the easiest and best price I have found. Just type in your dimensions and weight and it will give you a dozen or so freight companys to choose from. I have had the best service with Roadrunner or Central, they will probably be one of the choices. If you can pick it up at your local terminal you will get the best price. Also see if your seller can drop it at his terminal. Terminal to terminal is the cheapest way to go. Hope this helps.

i did this quote terminal to terminal to save and it was still high. what is the cost on your 650 pound items? i had it estimated with a standard pallet, the block should fit on half a pallet, would that make any difference? thanks for the advice

One last thing... be careful when you package it. LTL ( less than Truckload ) carriers hit MANY crossdocks ( terminals ) from A to B with your shipment. Each time they hit a terminal, your block will be unloaded and reloaded onto different trailers. Every once in a while Evil Kenevil will be driving the fork lift truck moving your shipment... and then we all know what happens. If you start moving COMPLETED motors you would best off paying extra for DOOR to DOOR service to avoid that.

The items I ship are large, 48" x 80" x 20"H. The price changes all the time depending on current fuel costs, but I can usually get prices from California to the midwest around $250 - $300 and to the east coast for $400. That being said a 1/2 pallet should be less than $200 from FL to NE. And yes size does matter, that's what she said anyway.

You have ZIP codes on that shipment by the way?? I could run a quote here at my compnay just for giggles and see what it is going for.

hahaha, she did say that! this is a bare block needing machine work, it would take some abuse to damage it lol
