k planes and trim tabs difference
What is the difference between k planes and trim tabs besides the price! I wanted to get opinions from people who have maybe had both, is there that big of a difference? Thanks for the help :coolcowboy:

K planes are trim tabs........made usually by keikhaefer hence the term "k" planes. K planes have more surface area and are usually longer than traditional trim tabs by say Bennett for example, and have a much greater reaction force on the boat.

k-planes and the like are far more heavy duty. Thick metal plates and heavy duty hydraulics.
And, as H&D mentioned they are typically longer. I have 380's and the plates are 30" long. |
Vice grips.....locking pliers

Also, K-planes will react faster due to being Hydraulic, and having a dedicated pump.

What difference would one notice if they replaced 280 k-planes with 380 k-planes on the same boat? I am guessing you would have to use less tab to get the same result. Would the larger tabs make the boat run better/faster due to them "extending" the hull/length of the boat?
