Default Offshore Racing on MTV?????

Hello Race Fans,

We are only two weeks away from the start of the first ever Seaside Heights ocean race to be held on Sunday June 23rd under OPA/SBI rules. Because of the logistics of this race, we need more help than usual. Please look at your calendar and see if you are available to assist with the safety of this race.

The Seaside Race will actually start in front of Jenkinsons Pavilion and then the boats will race ten miles south along the beach before they enter the racecourse in Seaside. The racecourse will go from the MTV sound stage which is on the Seaside Boardwalk just north of Casino Pier running south to Funtown Pier. Most of the turn, sweep, dive and medical boats will be on station in Seaside before the race starts. However, we will need some sweep boats to be along the 10-mile beach run in order to maintain a clear and safe racecourse. Once the boats pass going south, those sweep boats will follow along and then take their position in Seaside. It should be interesting to say the least.

If you would like to help with the race please fill out the volunteer form and fax or mail it back to me ASAP.

All meetings and parties will be held at the Aztec bar on the Seaside Boardwalk. Please get back to me as soon as possible so that we can provide you with the information necessary to attend the meetings and other events.

If your interested in racing, please contact OPA at 1.732.477.7400.

The next race will be held on Friday August 16th in Point Pleasant Beach NJ. The August race will be an SBI national race.

See ya at the races,

Ron Polli

Mike, I've seen MTV live on weekends. I think they are doing some sort of promotion with the Gecko Tequila boat. I'm sure there will be some coverage and we intentionally placed the norther turn in front of the sound stage. Free promotion?? Why not??

Phillip, we'd love to have you as a sweep boat. Basically we need lots of eyes close to the action in case of any sort of incident. Please fill out the form and fax it back to me so I can get you all the details regarding meetings and parties. You should also help with the August PP race, you'll have a blast.

If I recall correctly, the MTV people got involved with the SBI Key West race last year - give them a call and maybe we can get added exposure for the sport.

Thanks Capt J, we already have some folks talking with the MTV people. I would think that this would be right up thier alley as an extreme sport. Time will tell, we are only 10 days away from the race.

How many boats? We'll know after the registration is closed on the night before the race?

Does anyone ever know how many boats will show before the green flag drops?

This is a divisional race so I would expect about 20 boats, mostly in P classes.
