Default Avanti 41 History?

I recently bought a 1987 Avanti 41' and I've been looking for any type of history on the boat and hull. I bought the boat from a person who had it in the finger lakes of new york for a short period. He told me he picked the boat up from someone in New Jersey who was an old Apache dealer and had a warehouse of old boats the dealer never sold and my 41' was one of them. Anyone have an idea what Apache dealer that may have been?

There was some discussion about my 41' on here around the time I bought it but I haven't been able to find any lineage about this hull.

I can tell the dash may have a been a replica of an early 1980's Magnum 40' boat can anyone confirm this?

From what I've found so far about the former owner of Avanti was that he wasn't very well liked by many and didn't do the best job rigging some of the boats but other than that I come across of lot a hear say.

The boat was built with a heavy layup and I've had it crushing 6' waves without a problem. Theres no stress crack anywhere that I've been able to find either.

Does any know if the hull was used by another manufactures? I've seen other Avanti's from the same time period but I haven't seen any similar topdecks that have a rounded windshield except for a 39' Avanti for sale on Yachtworld. Were there different top deck options for buyers?

Anyone have an idea how many of these 41's were made? I've searched all over the net and haven't been able to find a picture of even a mention of another 41 except one person on SOS mentioned seeing one in New Jersey at one of the casinos on the water years ago.

My plan is to redo the cockpit interior, update the gauges and replace anything that needs to be. I had it out on lake erie for a couple months this season and the motors and drives worked perfectly with no issues. I had to adjust a few bolts here and there but nothing major.

Heres a few pictures

I was going to send you a PM this 60 Mag looks to have the same dash. Looks like you have been busy getting the interior out, nice! I have a local guy coming out to estimate a 38TG i have here that needs the same blasting you do on the hull. I will let you know what he says if you are still interested. Looks like she's really squat'in the Hummer

That dash on the 60' is close to what I'm looking to do with mine. Let me know what the sand blasting may cost out ur way. I just started tearing apart the boat today, so the next step for me is removing the old pirelli floor then getting everything sanded down. I need to touch base with you on getting the boat out to you in next couple months.

The Hummer gets the job done but isn't a happy camper about it.

I'm pretty sure that's the same boat I saw a few times on the Seneca river in Baldwinsville, NY. The guy who had it was named Will. He pulled it with a Hummer too.

Yes this is the same boat. I bought it from Will. It squated his H2 quite a bit also.

It's currently got twin 540's with TRS drives. My plan is to keep the drivetrain as is for now and update the rest of the boat first.

Bromaguire I have a 1998 27 avanti and it is an absolute blast! accelerates like a raped ape. I have a friend who has a 33avanti which I have ridden in a few times and his boat hauls ass and crushes waves for a 33. I know the owner of avanti wasn't well liked, and no boat is perfect but I love mine and the people I know that have one loves theirs. Every boat has their issues and I have also heard their rigging wasn't the best but it doesn't change the effect the boats structurally are pretty damn good. Enjoy yours she's a beauty

In the mid 70's I hired JC Simon to design a new Open class race boat for my Banana Boat co. The hull that he designed for me, looks very much like your hull. I know that Avanti made some 33 footers out of that design, PARADOX on this site has one.

One way to know for sure is to measure the width of the strakes. The chine strake should be 5 inches wide, the next strake in should be 4 inches and the inner one should be 3 inches wide.

You can compare from the photos on the Banana Boat Co site, look at the photos of the 38 foot Top Banana. www.bananaboatco.com That hull design won it's first race and it took two years for the new Cigarette hull, the 38 foot Top Gun to beat it in the Bahamas 200 in 1980.
