Fort Myers, Fl! Best area to stay? Rent boat?

After the Miami Boat show, we're heading to Fort Meyers area for a few days. What area would you recommend to stay? Any certain area that hosts more water front dock bars? Where the boating action is? Or should we just head beach front?

Recommendations on where to rent a boat so we can take in the sights from the water?

Thanks in advance!

Try Tarpon Point in Cape Coral

Great viewing of boat action.
Minutes to Ft. Myers Beach by boat.
Great boating area.

Snook Bight Marina http://snookbightmarina.com/ has rentals
Sanibel Marina http://www.sanibelmarina.com has rentals

When leaving Snook Bight marina head not and you run into many bars behind Fort Myers Beach:
The Big Game
Salt Sam's
Mantanza's
Nervious Nelly's
Dock Side

As Alex said Tarpon Point is great, Also Rum Runner's is also really nice. Both in Cape Coral and close to each other.

If you want a really good cheese burger go to Gramma Dot's @ Sanible Marina, small place so get there early.

If you want to head up the River there are also a few good resturants in Marina Town.

Hope this helps.

There will be a lot more action on Fort Myers Beach.
The Pink Shell is very nice with both bay and beach sides.
Marina Village at Tarpon Point is awesome but it might be a little quiet for you.

On the Back Bay.... Bonita Bill's or the Nauti Turtle.
On the beach .... Nemo's or the Smokin' Oyster Brewery.

If you can make it to Pine Island by boat ... Woody's Waterside.

Thanks everyone, got a place at Mantanza's! Seemed like a good location, close to beach, brewery, water, food.... Looking forward to the boat show and good weather!

My dad works at Salty Sam's marina in Ft. Myers Beach. They have a nice restaurant and I know they rent boats.
