Gary, sorry to bust your balls and thanks for the clarification. I have to add that the St. Clair sheriffs were completely professional about the whole situation.

And jr has a good question - does that 26 ft mean a 29' Fountain can run near to shore? After all, it's really a 25' boat

Now if we could just do something about the yahoos in their 45' luxo-barge tug boat cruisers plowing all over the place.... damn things couldn't plane if you dropped 900SC's in them

Jr, Forget the 26' rule worry about the 600' thats alot harder to measure with a Stanley tape measure! I think 26' is 26' just like the noise law it seems it is up to the offical. I guess If I were measuring it I would do it on top of the boat rather than under the keel

I won't be there I'm too old for that kind of party.

IF stopped they will ask what your boat size is. Most people we stop are not aware of the 200 / 600 ft rule so the answer the real number and proud of the length of their boat. If the Deputy is going to issue a citiation he would ask for the reg to verify the length. If no reg he can run the numbers and get it from dispatch. FYI I had 19 stops in a 8 hour shift a few weeks back and 0 Tickets issued, a bunch of verbal warnings were given. My idea of a good deputy is one who Educate's before issueing. But sometime there are to many infraction to let it ride.
