so true chuck
It's been three months since the tragedies at Key West and Las Vegas. In those three months:
In those same three months:
I would love to see offshore racing become a safe, well-recognized and well-run sport, but I'm hard-pressed to see how that is going to happen given this apparent lack of action.
If there are significant and effective changes underway, I think that it's time to start hearing about them out in the open.
Let's hear some good, substantiated, positive news from someone...
- The IndyCar sanctioning body implemented an independent investigation into the accident that resulted in Dan Wheldon's death.
- That investigation was completed in a timely manner and fully disclosed in a public forum.
- IndyCar elected not to return to Las Vegas or other tracks that presented the same issues until all the safety ramifications were fully understood an dealt with.
- IndyCar replaced its long-term Race Director in the interest of changing the way races are conducted.
- Coincidentally, IndyCar teams were taking delivery of a new design of car, but additional work is being put into making that car safer.
In those same three months:
- SBI announced that it was going to cooperate with a Coast Guard investigation into the three deaths at Key West.
- SBI has released its 2012 schedule, due to start in two months.
- Some racers have started Facebook posts expressing their concern over safety going in to the 2012 season.
- ???

They race was scheduled on the same weekend as 2 day Metalica concert in Bader field. Last year They had 2 day concert there for Dave Mattews Band. They had several Hundred thousand people come in for the concert. The police were not ready for the influx. This year they are taking precautions.

yes that must have been a hard decision for the casinos' to make
100's of thousand for a concert
or
10's of 10's of people for a boat race.
and again this post was about NEW safety. notice how nothing has been done. just sweep the bodies under the rug and continue on.

slv bally and Golden Nuget are some how connected in vegas but not NJ different management teams..GN was the host Marina managed by GN its the NJ Farley Marina.
I heard it from the head of marketing og the GN I know him very well.....and yes it was because of the concert, the local and state police said they can not guarentee safty the same thing took place in point pleasent 4 or 5 years ago and the concert broke out in riots. Atlantic city brought that up.
panther it sounds like wazzup is making a opinion "May have been a contibuting factor "
its all good I say were all rite bo drama

True, but as President, I give his opinion more credibility than anyone else.
There's roughly 5+ months from now until October so I guess there were large concerts every single weekend from now until then? For me, it's myopic to think they couldn't have suggested a different weekend(s) to work around unless something else was in play.
Signing off on this thread, have a good one folks. My wish is ALL the organizations, racers and fans take something positive from this as they move forward. Life it too short to argue.
