Thumbs up Gearing Up for 2012 !!! Latest Project

Sharkey-Images is gearing up for Video...

I have had several requests for doing video and I feel now is the time to start gearing up for it.

My latest Canon 1D camera is capable of video. I shot a few clips with it in the chopper but it really isn't suitable for it. For the most part I may rely on some Go Pros but use the Canon for other special media.

That leads me to my latest project that I just finished building.

A Camera Dolly.

Of course they come in all shapes and sizes and when pricing some of them, YIKES !!!

So with having some scrap aluminum laying around I went to work on building my own. It is set up with two styles of wheels. One for smooth surfaces I have a set of inline skate wheels and the other is set up for riding on rails which could be anything from PVC pipe or angle aluminum. I fabricated a tie bar for the axles so that they stay in tune with each other. It works great for a radius pan. I already made a quick clip of my Labrador which I will post later.

I have outfitted the camera with an external directional mic and LED Light Kit

No doubt this little gadget should make for some great effects...

At some point I may even use the hitch I added to the Dolly for the extension handle to hook up another set of wheels with an electric motor for more of a consistent motion. Could probably then get away with using a RC 4x4 ...

curious what editing software you are using? I just picked up Power Director, I have played with it for a few hours and I'm not sure if I like it or not... Either way, cool little toy.

Thanks Frank !

I can get a Gyro. They can be rented. All it takes is some $$$

The simple fact is there just isn't enough return to justify that expense.

I hear ya.. I was going to hire a guy to do video of a small fun-run years ago and the amount he wanted would have cost each of us roughly $1K a piece for 1.5 hrs video. The guy did video for a lot of the news channels. He had a killer setup but I'm sure it was mucho bucks!

However, it's still the best way to do it so we all don't get motion sickness watching our beloved poker run videos.

With great editing and taking the time to do it, most of that can be eliminated....
