Buying a cat to run off shore, you want the biggest you can afford, or you will be sitting alot of days wishing you could get out. If you have some where protected to run if it gets too rough, then you could look at a 21-24. You need to check out getting insurance first and get a written quote. Not everyone will insure cats, and some companys want you to have prior cat experience to underwrite you. Good luck.
P.S. My son has a 28 Skater and loves it.

I would look at a 30 spectre or 30 motion a lot of good deals out there, the bigger the better for running in the gulf the 24 ft can run there but the longer hulls do much better and are much more stable

FYI that is a 30 and a 24. Not a 28.

Who builds the knockoffs? I noticed on the Skater website, it doesn't look like build anything under 28 feet anymore.

Thats exactly why I would like to know of any other manufactures especially older ones.

..I have found some great deals on skaters from the 80's...I could almost jump on right now to bad two of them are in Jersey.but they are 24's

I would be happy with another brand to get into a 28....I love SKATERS...But cant buy one of those..You should have seen the look on my wife's face when I showed her the price of a 30 Liberator..WOW..

If you think that was bad, wait until you see the look on your wife's face when she sees the price of insurance!

Double Rigged, That is a 28 Skater(mine) alongside a 30 Skater @ Tower Park Marina in CA. Quite a difference in size.
