One dead, one rescued
Being a longtime boater I always think I am prepared. Guys, read this story and think about what shape your life preservers are in. The boat was a 30' Scarab that sank.

Maybe better preservers and flares might have saved this guy.

Good read. Read like a novel more than a news report. That really sucks though. Wonder how water started coming on board??

good read, sad but makes you think about what you'd do. I keep a bag within two steps of my helm that contains two vests with two personal three packs of flairs, an electronic signal beacon as well as various survival items right down to a couple shrill whistles even has some food and water provisions. It is in addition to my main vest/safety supply but is kept outside the cabin and is in a place it it has the best potential to float free on its own if need be. Whenever i get a safety check they comment on that item.

Sinking
I fish a lot of offshore stuff in the summer mostly Tuna and Halibut 50-60 miles out.
We carry 2 epirbs and a life raft and survival suits.
Call me over cautious but the life I save may be mine!
Really bad situation and I am sure the guy that lived will go through the what ifs the rest of his life.
