yzbert - I have a 1995 35 ss and it's for sale on: http://www.powerboatusa.com

But if you are looking at a '98, I believe it is a 358. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 358 came out in '97.

With that being said, I think the boat is awesome. It crushes the waves and has all of the amenities in the cabin. I put '99 454 Mag MPI's in mine and it ran 67 on GPS in fresh water with over 3/4 fuel in both tanks and overnight gear on board.

I have been in the 358's and the 386's and I honestly prefer mine over the 358, but I like the 386 better than mine. My boat seemed like a bigger boat than the 358, way more cockpit room, bigger sunpad, bigger swim platform and the cabin length seemed about the same. The 358 just had 6' headroom and mine has about 5' 5".

There is tons of storage both in the cabin and the cocpit. The v-birth could have more headroom, but the length is fine. I'm 5' 11 and my wife is 5' 1" and we both sleep in the v-birth. There is no slide out coushin to make a bed out of the couches. It does have the cooler on the passenger side of the cocpit.

OK-this is definitely my topic. I own a 358 2001 Sonic, 500 EFi's and on fresh water we run a true 78 GPS. 1/4 tanks we will hit 79. Side by side with a fountain 42, and ran with him, correction he ran with me in the rough stuff. ANY questions? Just ask!

bn,

i think the 358 did not come out untill 2000. i e-mailed jay ross the other day thinking they changed in 1999 but he said 2000. glad to here from both of you that the boat loves the rough stuff. wish the one i was looking at had 500's but speed is not my ultimate goal, it is going to suck being past by friends though. it has been a while.
what are you looking to replace your boat with?

either of you have any cons with the sonics?

I had a 24 Sonic SE with twin OBs. Love it. The 35 looks nice with a roomy interior.

However, if your looking for a boat in that price range, look at Hustler 388. I just spent a day on the Pace Boat at the NJ Races and was extrememly impressed with the 38 Hustler Slingshot. It was fast and smooth. Never slammed once. We ran 10 miles at 80 MPH and it was like a dance.

The prior race, I was on a 36 Apache. You can keep it. Not even in the same league as the Slingshot. Of course, the Outerlimits is still the bar that sets the mark for absolute excellence. The 42 OT is the ****.

I think the Sonic gives you the most boat for your money for us performance boaters that like to overnight a lot. I'm looking for a smaller Sonic. We just bought a new house and you can probably figure out how the story goes from there ... :(
