Some brokers are bs. My friend was selling a boat for $10,000 and he kept getting crazy low offers so he asked me to look at it and make an "offer". I acted as a regular customer and made an offer of $8,000. My friend calls me later to say that The broker told him I had offered $6,000!!! Had he accepted my "offer" my friend would not only be out the $2,000 he never knew about but also his 10% commission... Some people

And yes, boat ended up selling privately....

On a side note: I had a good experiance buying my old fountain from Rex Marine in CT (broker)
