Marc owns BAM and if he says it, it's good. No one is more knowledgeable on Merc Parts.

Dont stop there. Get your wallet ready. Next it will be the needle and seat going south at wot dumping overflow in number 8 been there. The top oring grows like a slinky once the top is off. Do a rebuild, you will boat more this summer.

Default VST tank

I have had pleanty of problems with that when I had my Top Gun , there is a diaphragm inside it that goes bad and pours fuel out of the vent through a tube that is connected to the #5 intake port (if i rember right) , that is a safty if it overflows it goes into the intake insted of starting a fire kinda like the vent on a marine fuel pump.I think its that vent you have open on the top, Best investment you can make is to trash the VST tanks and update with some Cool fuel pumps off a later 502 MPI , The VST tank is a small reservoir of fuel to supply pump and keep it cool there is a float , needle and seat and some small parts , not real reliable , John

Did you figure out what was leaking? You can get the top oring back in if you cool it and work it with some grease back into the cap. If it is the diaphram or needle and seat you got problems. PM me a number and I will give you a ring Chuck.
