AAHH!! Trailer brake reseviour is empty....somebody tell me what to put in quick!!!

Leaving for vacation to Traverse City (3 hour tow) and my trailer surge brake cylinder is empty. Yes, I know, I need to find out where it went, but for now, what kind of fluid do I use?? Stuff you get for cars at Autozone????

Help quick!!!

Mike

The trailer probably isn't new enough to be silicone-based (I'm not sure if even the new ones use that stuff.
DOT3 should be fine- call Crazyhorse and ask him what he threw in mine- he found it empty before taking it up to Muskegon.

Have a great holiday Mike!

DOT 3 should work.

You can get it at Autozone, Wal-Mart, KMart, etc...

Might be a good idea to take an extra can along, and check level every hour or so.

You can bleed these things down pretty easily by attaching the receiver insert into the coupler and using this as a lever to pump the actuator. Hopefully it didn't run completely dry, so you won't have to bleed it. Gravity bleeding works sometimes too.

Good luck, and be careful!

Yea, the regular stuff! Grab a wrench, hose and container to bleed them though!

Dot 3 Brake fluid is fine.

Mine and 2 of my friends were empty form over the winter and non of us could find where it went. Filled them up and bled them and they are fine.

Go figure

Have fun

Thanks guys. It's not bone dry, wet in the bottom. I'll fill it and see if the performance improves. I noticed this past weekend that the boat seemed to push my truck a bit. Didn't think to check it till this afternoon. Doh!!! If I have to, I'll stop along the way at a rest stop or something and bleed them there (I always carry the tools necessary to fix just about anything!!).

Appreciate the quick responses. Off to Traverse in about a half an hour.
