With a 380-hp MerCruiser 8.2 Mag engine providing the power, the first model reportedly reached 70 mph. Price for the 26 Convincor, without a trailer, will range from $75,000 to $80,000 depending on power and options.
This type of setup seems to be a better fit for this style and size of boat.

But it's great to have different options, which is why the model will sell well.

One has to ponder the facts: Will a 166 lb weight difference be off set by a 600 Horsepower advantage? According to Newton's First law of motion...one would tend to think so.

I am still looking for the 1000 lb difference.

Your link shows 600lbs per for the motor so we're at 1200 for them. So you're only showing 234lbs for a pair of Bravo's, hdwe and rigging??? 117lbs per??
Either my math sucks or I'm missing something.

There are some boat makers that do listen to the little guy.

One thing smart for Checkmate, is building an upgrade strategy. It's always a good policy to have choices for your existing customers that want to upgrade, be it size or power, or both.

The Go Fast dudes will hate me for asking this, but....



How about a single Yanmar 370 diesel in this boat, the new Nortech has one out. Roughly the same HP.

Not many small boat builders take the time to figure out how to get air to the engine without rendering the hatch almost useless, and so they don't bother. Checkmate is to be commended for its outstanding design, which not only gives two intakes, but hugs the deck and doesn't spoil the lines of the boat. The air exhaust is nice too, coming out just under the hatch on both sides.

I would have designed the fairing to accept a taller windscreen to protect the occupants, and I would have designed a softer, rounder rear end.

Other than those caveats, I really like this boat. It speaks to my obsessive compulsive need for symmetry.

OK...so the link shows 467s for the engine and a Bravo drive weighs 110 lbs. Worse case scenario...a pair or LSA's with Bravo III drives MIGHT weigh 1500 lbs....so let's load it up.

A pair of Mercury 300 XS outboards and a bracket will weigh around 1250~1300 lbs ...depending on the bracket.

You stated that a pair of LSA's with Bravo drives weighs 1000 lbs more than the pair of outboards...not so. A pair of LSA's with Bravo I's does not weigh 2250~2300 lbs. A pair of 502 Mags will...but not LSA's.

I didn't make any comment about your math...you did.

In summary...I think the 600 HP difference covers the delta in the weight (<1000 lbs & probably <500 lbs)...and my extra 200~300 lbs isn't hanging 24"~36" off the rear of the boat....but it's producing double the power.

I think both options would be interesting...and I think it's fun to talk about it.

Checkmate has a winner here..I hope they do well with it.

According to Mercury a 300XS weighs 505lbs. 1010lbs the pair, man those brackets are really heavy!

According to Stainless Marine...yes they are.

Still looking for the 1000 lb difference...

I weighed the full platform, brackets I've installed and they were 150lbs.Welded aluminum and balsa cored glass.

The questions in mind are, what do those motors really weigh? Their website says 600lbs per, but for what/ Is that dressed? Motor mounts and all I/O required hdwe? I'd guess no but that is only a guess. The motor on paper appear to be killer though. (love to do a twin small block package one day)
The one question I have no clue to though is, how much does a pair of fully rigged/dressed/installed Bravo 1's weigh??? Thought I remembered seeing 300something yrs back???

I am not an anti I/O guy at all but twin's in a 26' boat (IMO) would be a nightmare to maintain (lack of space) and totally throw off the center of gravity on that short of hull. I've done it a bazillion times w/big O/B's on little hulls. They go like sin @ WFO but suck every where else.
