When Dave and Johnny ran 208 MPH in 2010 they were showing 218MPH and pulling through the traps. Now ask yourself this. Did Dave stop running the Shootout because the radar does not accurately reflect the trap speed or did he stop running because the boats are going too fast now on a one mile course?

Just finished listening to the show and here is a quick summary as to why Dave is not going to run this year:
Key West incident
My Way spin out
Already broke his personal goal of 200mph
He wants the course to be shorter (3/4 mile) instead of 1 mile. He said its not worth risking holding the boat at peak speed passing the bluffs and spectators (100 yards per second). He believes the same speeds can be achieved on a shorter course and it would increase safety.
The ideal setup is to have timing lights out in the channel to get away from the bluffs. They would also be more accurate vs the radar guns.
