my only thought was they had the motor mount on the wrong side of the plate - that would get me about another 1/2 inch.
or do they make longer shafts for the TRS drive?
mech thinks they need to move the motor back to really fix the issue.

The missing factoid - that is not a Borg trans. That is the Merctrans and it does not engage very much to begin with. Also there is nothing on the trans that locates the engines. What kind of mounts, the regular pedastal mounts or offshore plate mounts?
