i dont think the cui has anything to do with the determination of small or big block nomenclature.
gm offered a 400cui small block, yet the 396cui was a big block.
thats about all i know. others will have to chime in with more or better info.

Here's the Volvo data. I would think that the Ilmor package would be pretty close:
Lighter Weight – The new Volvo Penta engine is lighter than competing engines. It weighs just 867 lbs. (394 kgs.) compared to over 1,000 lbs. (454.5 kgs) for the old technology big block V8s. In fact, Volvo Penta tells us that the entire package weight of engine and outdrive weighs 1,076 lbs. (489 kgs.).
Looks like 125 pounds lighter per package.

Found this...
An article by Matt Trulio back in May says 300 lbs lighter.
"Among other things, the engine’s LS architecture translates to a more compact package. The closed-cooled MV8 570 is 2 inches shorter and narrower than Ilmor 8.2-liter, 502-cubic-inch engines. What’s more, it’s 300 pounds lighter than Mercury Racing 565."

...so we're probably somewhere between 125-300 lbs, so with twins that's 250-600 lbs.
600 lbs would be a major difference. That's approximately the weight of 100 gallons of fuel!

I myself really like the LSx series of engine however seeing as they will be going head to head with Mercury who for all purposes owns the market I think its a mistake to market them at the same price as the comparable hp Mercury offerings.
Most people given the choice at the same price are gonna go with the more known name if there is no finacial incentive to go with the new guy...
At least that would be my thinking.

My guess is that the 570's final pricing may end up slightly lower than its competitors, but the key word is "slightly." Buyers who are looking for a huge price difference most likely will be disappointed. The margins (and I am not looking to open large discussion on why high-performance marine engines cost what they do) simply won't allow it.
