Good move.

IMHO nobody is going to beat the new Mercury technology and certainly no independent engine program can keep up with those monsters whose potential is STILL not fully realized.

Turbines are basically fuel guzzling furnaces without any relationship to real world boaters in an age of "green" alternatives. The M/C's are kissin' cousins to the majority of sterndrives in the typical family boater's cruiser....and seem to be able to hold their own with even the fastest turbines.

At the same time the speed envelope is highly stretched at present and this is really raising the bar....again....out on the race course.... 45' ultralight cats racing virtually airborne near 200 mph around closed courses demand safety systems which are at present undeveloped. The Unlimiteds have the best concept, but that is all about single man unitized cockpits..... It's time to abandon the two and four seat "living rooms" and really drill down to a simple egg like cocoon for each occupant. Let the magazine writers tag along in a helicopter overhead and , come to think of it, isn't that where the turbines belong as well?

Good luck guys.

T2 is correct keep the blow torches on the whopabopters where they belong. allowing the turbines to takeover the unlimited class killed the sport of unlimited racing now i go watch the blown alky unlimited lights or grand prix they still thunder! anyone here remember that sound of a 1700ci V12 getting up on plane or thundering down the straight in front of the crowd? it was a sound that made the hair on the neck stand up! if you put a turbine in a top fuel car the stands would be empty we go to a nitro race to feel it! good luck team geico, now the engines are finally catching up with hull advances will trannys be the next revolution? and does anyone know if these engines based on the agm/mercedes ?

Hate to tell you. This is the Norwegian you need to worry about.
Hope Merc gave you lots of spare motors for this year season. You are going to need them.
Looking forward to it.
You'll be needing some spares as well..running at 108+ % has its limitations.

Offshore Racing isn't all about top end. See you in turn 1

We agree with you the mills are very impressive and have tremendous potential. As I said in the blog We watched them up close and personal as they were validated in CMS and Gasse and they have what it takes to dominate on the race course.

As for safety, couldn't agree with you more about refining the cockpits for survivability. We have spent the last two months building out the Victory's canopy still getting another months work. ...as you are well aware there are many inherent differences between Offshore and hydro's that complicate the challenge. The "egg" concept seems to be the best solution.

Thanks for the support Rich

Marc,

Good luck with the new engines! I like the move to piston power. Hope to see you in Michigan City this year.

Yes john we are too. The turbines are a tough program to run against. It should be fun to be on the other side of the table and the fans will be the ultimate winner with all out unlimited racing action.

Thumbs up

Can't wait to see Unlimiteds racing again at St. Clair with 2 competitive boats, and hopefully more turning out as it will be a competitive class. Just too bad that more people didn't step up and make the commitment that Geico did for the Turbine program, but going back to piston power I feel will only increase the sport and not leave so many out due to the higher initial cost of turbines. Lets go racing boys
