OT- Steve David-Gold Cup
I thought some of you might appreciate this photo I took while at the Unlimited Hydroplane Detroit Gold Cup.
That's OSO's Steve David (Oboy Oberto) leading Miss Bud, the eventual winner, around the famous "Roostertail Turn".
Steve ran a great race and came in a close 4th.

Ahhh, Steve David..... The Man, The legend, The true gentleman of all racing!
How are you Steve? Hope the married life is treating you well (I'm sure she is keeping you in line because we never could) and I look forward to seeing you soon. NYC? NJ? Will you be there kicking butt?
If the water is too big, I'd be happy to stand in for your partner
I hope all is well & if you ever find yourself in this part of the world, I'd love to host you & Sabrina on the big boat for a weekend in a nice port in New England.
Hope to talk to you soon!

Fred,
Just say the word and you're in! TriCities Washington this coming weekend, Seattle the following and San Diego in mid Sept. If this year doesn't allow you to visit, keep an eye on Hydroprop.com for next years schedule and a possible race in St. Pete under the auspices of Gary King and Friends.
You bring the Whoppers and Fries and we'll have the VIP passes

New race sites-Unlimiteds
Hydro-Prop is pushing real hard in attempts to get more races in Central Florida. During some chat with Gary and Bart (HP) they stated that strong efforts are underway for Sanford and Lake Agnes in addition to St Pete for the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
I don't know about the mix of Unlimited hydros with the offshore but there was one exhibition offshore at Detroit (see below) and there is usually a small racing group running around Mission Bay San Diego inbetween the hydro heats.

gfatha, great picture!! We've been wanting to get to one of his races all summer. Too many family things going all the time. But, I guess that's a good thing.
Steve, good luck with the rest of your season's. If we don't get to one of your races we'll look you up this winter. I'm not forgetting about that lunch I owe you.
Be well

Very cool picture, make a nice poster Now if we could just get Steve to be the Abbassador of Off Shore Racing, we would probable be 10 times ahead of where we are now. I always wondered why we didn't have races in Fl.? I mean with Bernie Little and the Miss bud boat being out of Lakeland Fl. you would have thought more would have been done around here in Fl.

Hey DJD,
Good to hear from you poppa! Sabrina and I are doing well, and yes indeed she's keeping me in line. I must be getting old, because she's making sense.
I will definitely see you at the Point Pleasant and NYC races later in August and September. Mike Seebold has stepped into the F-275 with Benny while I'm at the Unlimited races. He's doing a great job driving and Benny's been on the sticks. They won at Sarasota and were doing well in Deerfield until either an intake or exhaust valve went bye bye.
Miss seeing you guys, don't miss seeing your transom in the big water though
Payton, you're on for lunch whenever you get back to Fort Lauderdale.
Gdfatha & gmhdfan, the possibility of Unlimiteds returning to Florida is almost a certainty. If not in 2003, most definitely in 2004. San Diego will once again bring several racing categories together for a superbowl of boat racing in mid September. Inboard Drag boat, Super Stocks, Crackerboxes, Limited Hydros, Offshore, Stock Outboard, Formula One, Grand Nationals and Unlimiteds all at the same venue. The POPBRA folks do a good job with the Offshore boats on the Mission Bay course and really ad to the overall show.
No matter how long I've been racing, you put all those categories together, constant boat racing of every variety, and I'm as excited as I was sitting on my Dad's shoulders watching the races at 5 years old. What adds to the "cool", is no matter the boat size or speed, everyone has a ball at San Diego as part of the larger racing Family.
If any of you can make it out this year, look me up and I'll do everything possible to get you VIP passes.
Take care,
Steve
