If you're looking for fuel economy , bolt on a Maximus 5 blade , watch your mid-range mileage soar !

I found that my 496HO in my last boat averaged around 12 GPH. That was an average of idle, cruise, fast, and some WOT. This was a pretty consistent number over many tanks of gas. I had a 60 gallon tank and I knew I could typically run 4-5 hours on a tank. I never really equated this to the range, just GPH.

90 miles with little or no safety factor.

120 miles to dry tank if very conservative.

One time with my last boat, I filled up (60g), went 155 miles, according to GPS. Got back home and the next time I filled up it took 55 gallons.

On the way to my destination I think I was running 4000+ rpms. On the way back I noticed the gauge was getting low so I backed off a bit.
