Default Boat Races in Grand Haven Labor Day?

Anyone know if these Great Lakes Silver Cup races are still on for Labor Day weekend?

How are the ramps up there? It's been quite a few years since I've been there.
We are thinking of going but we would like to trailer accross as the lake is always a little iffy that time a year.

Municipal boat launch in Grand Haven can handle just about anything that can be trailered. 6 docks, 12 lanes. Smoke on the Water Poker Run is in GH so big boats are no problem. That will be a very busy weekend so the main parking lot will probably be full. Expect to walk 1/4 to 1/2 mile back from the auxillary parking area. After that experience you should have a great time. Grand Haven is a cool town. Just stay between the markers on the river. 20 to 25 feet deep in most places.

Thumbs up

Yes, the race is on.

Despite the angry chater fisherman the races will be on Sunday Sept. 1 at 12:00pm & 1:30pm. The course will be just south of the channel.

The municipal will be busy that weekend.

I know several of the charter boat captains and they are really angry. Supposedly one of their busiest weekends of the year. Oh well. And besides, at that time of the year they are mostly5-10 miles off shore fishing the deeper water anyway. The steelhead don't start up the river till later in Sept. Let em cry I say, bring on the BIG HP!!!!!!!

We should have an OSO raft off on the south side of the course, between the course and the beach. If it's not rough like it was the last time they tried to have the race here. Can you say 8-10 footers????? We of course went out anyway!!!!!!!

better yet, lets have front row seats for the race.

who wants to volunteer for RACE PATROL?

I have the contact, the Grand Haven race organizer and she was VERY excited when I told her that I had some boats that want to volunteer for race patrol.

last time, race patrol vounteers got pre race instruction, an assigned GPS way point. two cool shirts, a cool race patrol flag ( in my office now) and the best seats for the race. also an invite to one of the post race parties.

only committment this year , be available Sunday and Monday in case the race is blown out Sunday and moved to Mon.

Waterfoul, that was fun playing in those 8-10's with my old 211 liberator that day. too bad the race boats whimped out huh?

LET'S MAKE AN OSO PRESENCE with a significant group to volunteer for race patrol!!

let me know, name/boatname/ phone number here or in a pm
