Default Exhaust tips and sound

I've tried to find a previous thread related to this but no luck. It's obvious exhaust tips add something to a boat style wise, but do they do anything related to performance or do they make the boat louder? I would assume they bring a bit of noise out from under the swim platform. But if this is true, is the noise gain worth the cost?

Are you talking about going from thru prop to thru transom? What kind of motor do you have?

I have thru hull exhaust running twin 6.2 motors. The current setup is basically flush with my hull now.

I don't think you really gain anything besides looks. Which I guess is still worth it. Any upgrade is a good one.

I kinda get your question and am curious myself as to how much the length and type of tip changes the sound. It can't be that much otherwise staggered boats would have a distinctly different sound from side to side.

How much louder is it if you go from the corsa mufflers with baffles to regular tips ?

So see, I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering. It seems they're popular enough that someone would know that when they've switched from stock to longer tips, they would notice a noise increase or not.

One thing I can tell you is that I have the external rubber flappers and they make a world of difference at idle. It is almost like having mufflers the way they baffle the sound and water coming out.

Canamman, I had through prop exh with 6.2's. All my previous boats had through transom exhausts, soooo. My son was bugging me for years to convert and I gave in,haha. First of all, you won't gain any power or speed but a nice rumble @ idle at the dock. Here're some shots before and after. The tips all have internal flappers. Center tips are Rex Marine products.

Had to make my own exhaust tips for the outside

Complete

Sound clips

Not quite the big block sound but better than through prop
