Default Rotten transom Phantom 25 1985 mod

Hi!

I hope you are well.

I have a 1985 Phantom 25 from UK with a Verado 350 sci. Its been various engines on it, included Johnsom 3.6 V8 300 GT, Promax 300 SVS, 2 x 2,5 EFI SS, etc. When we should redo the top of the transom, we suddenly discovered that the transom itself was totally soaked with water. And when we removed everything it was not a pleasant sight. Now everything is removed, and we are on our way to reinstall stringers, knees and the transom itself with divinycell, etc. Its a professional boat builder doing it, so we cross our fingers we have ol lady Phantom on the water in two weeks. Lucky us we discovered everything before a total failure.

Cheeers! Toffen

Never fun to find way more than you think is there... Have any more pics of the redo? We always love to see these things come back together!

I,ve done a few of those rotten Phantom transoms in the past ,the wood of the transom is unprotected on top by most of these older boats where the deck is not covering the top of the transom, most I,ve done were wet to the bottem.
Try to do the layup around the top and glass it in place at least 6 inches on the outer transom laminate on a shallow angle .
By looking at your pics ,it shows that your glass guy is already planning this ,by using 8 layers over the top the laminate keeps the wood together and will not bend ,best use epoxy to bond the new wood to the existing transom laminate ,but keep in mind it could take some time to get all the moisture out of the laminate .

HI!

The progress is going forward. One more layer between the knees on the transom, and a divinycell plate will bond the top of the knees with the transom edge. It looks promising indeed.

In the end the transom outside and inside will be coated with gecoat. And after that a new carpet plus rerigging evererything.

Hi!

Yes we are now soon there.

New 4 inch thick transom, knees reinforced with divinycell and new splashwell config where a dvinicell plate is bonded to the top of the knees. So the whole thing is like a box. Will be coated tomorrow, and engine +++ rigged this week. Just in time for the season

The work looks great Toff. Your Phantom makes me miss my outboard Thoroughbred. Glad to see that you will be on the water for the season.

HI!

The result was very good, and the summer even better. Next out is new interior based on Shelby GT 350 / Ford GT40 / Mach 1 I will post pictures when we start up. I may even send the boat to US for the work and do some pokerruns!
