Default Converting dry to wet exhaust

Boat has a stock 525efi with dry exhaust. It has side exits and small weep holes on the bottom of the tails I assume for draining. It is way too loud my ears are still hurting. Can I simply block of the side exits and drill out say 6 or so holes in the inner part of the pipe. Making it a wet system. If so how many holes and how fair from the tail should they be? An the real question does making it wet make that big of a difference?

I don't think the difference will be all that noticeable.i converted my hp500s with 525efi cams so basically the same motors from wet to dry and the difference isnt much at all.side exits are just loud especially outside the boat.
