Question Bad batch Merc 2002 300x's

Is anyone having problems with a Merc 2002 300x not making 6800 RPM's? I have a Skater 32 and one motor never made full power. It turns 5900-6000 Rpm's. The other motor revs right to 6800. The props check out, the gear case is the same ratio. The computer shows everything is good. The motor just won't make HP.
Thanks if any has any info.

Update: When the port gearcase was checked for the right ratio the splines on the upper drive shaft were twisted. This also happened on the starboard gearcase but it was the drive shaft coming out of the gearcase that failed. The props are clean and have never been hit. I'm concerned why are the splines failing.

Have you contacted Mercury Racing? Sounds like one is acting like a 300 and the other like a 300x.

Yes I have contacted Mark Buyer and Peter Cohen. The info that the computer and the compression test was good just came in the morning.

Hydro,

Contact Philip on the board here. He has had several problems with his. I am sure he can shed some light on things for you.

Good luck.

Hey Shane
Thanks for the response. Phillip and I are having the exact same problem. I just spoke to him this morning. I found another guy in CA both his motors only rev to 6300 no matter what pitch prop he uses.
Thanks again

LOL LOL LOL You can see the serial number in the pic where he is placing the sticker on the box. I checked it, it was not mine.
