Be careful about underpowering a boat... 525s will be a bit weak in any larger cat and will get tired pretty quickly running wide open all the time.
the MTI 36s with 700s are a great package... Cats want to run, and they need a little power and rpm to do it, regardless of the builder.
Get the most power that your budget can provide..

I have a nice 2009 40 MTI with Mercury 700's that would suit you well, let me know if I can help at all: http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o52430-en.html

Curious- what gear ratios are the 36 & 40 Mtis running with 700s? And what size prop? I really like that package. An of course what are you seeing for speed?

There were only a few 36's built with 525's and I don't know how many still remain with that package. On a light load you could run around 105. Like others commented, just about the time the boat starts to feel like a true cat, you've run out of power. If you've never had a real high speed boat 100 MPH sounds fast but in that boat it feels like you're doing 55 MPH on a 4 lane interstate Hwy.
I would look for a 700 NXT package if you want to stay with relativley mild power and then be able to run in the 120s.

thanks gofstlvr-to be honest a 100 mph boat sounds unbelievable to me-as performance boat lovers we are addicted to high adrenaline and im sure in the future may be looking for something bigger and more powerful-for now a 36 that goes 100 sounds out of this world-the comment about eating up bravo drives is what scares me-the thing i dont want is unreliability with the engines or drives-i will often have my family with me with little ones so maxing out will not be something that will happen too often-i would like to buy something with reliable power and drives that will get me 3-4 years of moderate use. thanks

thanks johnny-i hear you-bigger power will bigger insurance, more fuel, temptation, bigger rebuilds, problems etc i am assuming?? i like the 525 engines because they are without blowers and if i bring the boat to florida in the winter i hear the 525 rinse out very easy and are closed cooling?? whats your thoughts?? thanks

If u can find a boat with 700's and nxt/6 drives it will have closed cooling and the drives should be trouble free.

I go to "breakfast" with this boat. I'm running just under 1100hp a side and he beats me to "breakfast" every time. Partly because he is a better, more experienced driver, but she will haul a$$.

I think it runs 130ish but has no problems hanging out at 115mph all day. It's a beautiful boat and would be exactly what I would order (+ 1 seat) if I could afford new.

You have some good advice here. I really think you would get bored very quickly with a 525 powered boat. This is a very heavy boat that will be pretty hard on bravo drives. 525's will be pretty lazy in this boat. It will get to 100 but will take a while. I really think that 700's and NXT drive would be the better choice. Also for resale that would be an easier boat to sell.
