2013 & 2014 emissions
Does anyone know if i buy a new hull in 2013 or 2014 can i put an older motor in it. I heard today that i can this year but not in 2014? Any input would be greatly apriciated. And if someone does in 2014, do they regulate it? I think (if i heard him right) after 2013 boat engines have to have catalitc convertered motors. Anyone??

My motor isnt black or blue. Its a older 502 turned into a 540. If its carburated, would i have to put fuel injection on it for a 2013 or 2014?

Actually it started in 2010, only emission certified in new boats. And yes the over 500 HP is currently exempt but I believe that is changing at some point in the near future.
So, at least from the manufacturers standpoint cat only. However I doubt if you will find the EPA police waiting at the launch ramp.
We can't even buy a new engine non-cat from Mercury for a repower unlesss we provide a hull number that is prio to 2010 and send the old engine back.

California EPA & CARB mandated catalyst motors 500 hp and down started in 2008 - Indmar along with Malibu wakeboard boats on their decision started catalyst motors in 2006. The rest of the US 2010- EPA mandated any motor 500 hp and down needed to be a catalyst motor in all new hulls. The 4.3 V-6 was exempt till model year 2012.
Any repowers thru the marine OEM's you have to provide a hull ID to prove what year it is so that you install the correct motor. Cat or Non cat motor. So far anything over 500 hp is good without catalyst system to install. Next up catalyst systems in outboards. They EPA & marine engine OEM's have been testing them for 2 years. Its coming and so will motors over 500 hp down the near future.
