That run is on my bucket list! It's so scenic up there!
Doesn't the lack of participation have something to do with the nature nazi's all pissed off about the powerboats coming into the host town for the weekend and the powers that be in the city were jacking prices through the roof for the organizer?

Buffalo had, for years been dancing around the 1000 Isles run and catering to whatever PRA decided. In 2012 PRA announced their run for the 1st weekend in Aug, Buffalo had that weekend but switched to the 2nd weekend and signed a multi year deal with the host facility. PRA then switched the 2012 to the 2nd weekend butting heads with Buffalo.
Buffalo puts on a great run for a lot less money, even if it doesn't have the scenery. The locals don't jack up the prices either. There are some that still won't mind paying entry fees from $800 -$1000 (crew included) for the 1000 Islands run but many of us average boaters find that budgets are getting tighter and Buffalo is a better bargain. PRA better wake up and realize this and get their run off Buffalo's weekend (and reconsider their prices) as Buffalo is going to bury them in entries as they did last year and it will only get worst.
Of course, to keep up it's level PRA could always count on fewer entries in the future and just jack up the prices to make up the difference! Those that don't worry about money, and have more than they'll ever need, may still continue to do it. Or, looking at Buffalo's entry list, they just may not.
I miss going up to the 1000 isles run but it was always too rich for my blood and I was just a spectator and I'd still do Buffalo (at least 16 years). I'd rather be a participant than a spectator which is why I'll miss the 1000 Island run again this year and participate at Buffalo.

Tank, I have a cottage on Wolfe Island, about 20 minutes from Kingston, if you ever come up let me know, you can stay there, and/or keep your trailer there. Saves paying thru the nuts for a hotel (-:
