Default looking at a new camera...whats good?

We are looking at new digital cameras and really no idea what to buy. Budget is around $500. Want something fairly easy to use but also something that will take good pics that I can enlarge for the man cave. Found a D3100 for $400..?

you should check out the Sony nex series, they are about have the size of dslr's and use full size lenses. My brother recently sold his dslr for an nex and loves-- the say the picture quality is as good as standard dslr's, unless your compairing to 2-3k up bodies

Really cool camera's - don't have one myself but have used my brother several times

My GF has gotten some really good deals on lightly used equipment at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ and http://www.adorama.com/

Most of the stuff is trade-ins on newer/better equipment. They are gone over and most come with guarantees.
Just a thought.

I just got the gf a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS25, takes phenominal pics for a point and shoot. Lots of cool simple to use features but what I really like is it takes the shot almost instantly when you hit the button. Most cameras I've had have that second of lag but this one doesn't seem to. Great resolution to.

Little more money if you don't already have a Canon lens.
Canon EOS Rebel T2i 18 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera
Had the same camera for years but was a 35mm. Moved to this one a couple years back. Best camera I've ever had.

The other half has had really good luck with her Sony HX300... it's smaller than than her big Cannon body camera for travel but takes the same quality pics and has a 50X zoom. Back in April she researched her options to the point I thought she was trying to beat a dead horse - all research came back to the Sony as the best match/ best buy....

depends what you are going for. Do you want something that is portable and takes good pictures or something that is strictly for picture taking I.E. the old 35mm shaped cameras, cannon rebel etc, which can be had for less $500.

Or do you want something that is the standard pocket camera? If so I bought one of these 5 years ago, granted then the best you could do was 8-10mp, but this one is 16mp http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Olympus+...&skuId=8251048

I love mine is takes good pictures, and I can take it anywhere, can be out in the rain, can go in the water up to 30ft can be dropped etc. Thats why i like it. But really with the technology these days even the cheapest $80 variety cameras take pretty good pictures. Cell phone even, my iphone probably takes some of the best pics I have ever seen, granted your talking only about a 10-15ft range or sceneary shots.
