525 EFI No Oil Pressure
2005 Formula 353 with 525s/ITS/XR. 270 Hours on the boat/mechanicals. Ran boat 25 minutes to meet up with friends to make the trip from Cleveland, OH to Leamington Ontario, Canada. Everyone on both boats to start the trip, get on plane then warning buzzer and zero oil pressure on starboard. Shut it down and checked all over and found no leaks, checked oil, and all electrical connections looked good. Fired engines ran perfect but no oil pressure on starboard, went to go on plane and warning buzzer. Shut down starboard and limped back to dock on port, then limped the 1.5 hr trip back to home boat launch on port. No metal in oil on dipstick. Having engine pulled today at Marine Tech Concepts. Hoping its just an oil pump failure and I can have them do the top end 250 hr service while its out. We have 2 weeks before lake Cumberland Poker Run so time is an issue. If all goes to plan, will have port top end done before 2014 spring break out. Any suggestions to do while engine is out or wisdoms would be appreciated.

Well maybe oil pump pickup fell off engine? Hope its not hurt to bad. I once ran a 502 carb motor with out oil pressure because I did not check slip collar on msd distributor and got lucky just replaced bearings and motor has been running hard for couple years now. Good Luck

Well here's the update. Drum roll please..........Bad Sensor. Mechanic hooked up an external oil pressure gauge and was at 55 PSI. No metal in filter and doing a full service, checking EVERYTHING. I will get the scoop on the alarm going off and the dash gauge reading zero, if there are separate sensors , etc. The alarm would only sound for me when I tried to go on plane, otherwise it would idle without alarm and gauge reads zero with a red warning light on. Maybe there is a limp mode, once RPM are up alarm goes off? Its great news for me, the engine is good and we are on track for Lake Cumberland Poker Run. I will repay the engine gods by doing the top end services at the end of the season.
