Not sure what pmefi costs are, but have been told that Mercury's rebuild program on 850s costs nearly $100K per engine
I'd call pmefi see if they can beat it by a dollar or two.

The biggest issue with the 850's is they were not much cheaper to buy/maintain than the 1075's so why bother with the smaller engine. Similar issue to the 1100/1350, the savings is so small why not get the bigger engine!
I suspect Frank is looking at the 42X/850 boat with the exploding fireball paint job. That boat has been for sale forever, originally from a dealer in Ohio. I think the paint/interior is tough to get past and I would rather find a 42X/700 boat with better paint/interior.

The rebuild time and maintance is the same as 1075's as they are both solid rollers which is the weak link. They can also be upgraded to 1075's pretty easily. Most all the ones I have been around, 1075's, where good for at least 100hrs before topends, or complete rebuilds if your really concerned.

I just had my 850 rebuilt, Express Racing Engines in Deland Fl did the job. And they did a great job. We put hydraulic lifters and changed computers to run on 90 octain. So more like 1025 from Merc. Did DYNO numbers were over 1000 hp.
