Anyone with info on early to mid 80s 41' with diesel power?
I know they are super heavy and fairly slow by today's standards. Does anyone know the weight, dry/wet? Performance with different diesel setups? Any insight how the hull performs? Any info at all would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for a diesel type, 40ish ft, that can be utilized for extended criusing, and also be a wave crusher. My search obviously starts with cigarette! Any other ideas i should be exploring? Thanks for any and all responses.

I found a ealrly 90"s 40 Super Hawaii awhile back on boattrader that had Cummins diesels with arneson's. I believe it was at LOTO.

I found a 40 something cig with diesels and surface drives on boat trader online. I didn't pay a lot of attention to it but i was here in Michigan. Check it out

A few years ago I saw a Tempest 42 with diesels that was really nice. Huge amounts of room, big cockpit and the sales guy said it would do 60. So it was probably good for 40. But it had all the goodies and 3208's.

The one down side is ,most had '3208' series , cat diesels . NOthing wrong with that untill you need a rebuild . In the diesel world they are known as "the throw away motor " Something about not having sleeves and you can't rebore cylinders . You could cut the cylinders out and add sleeves but it is very pricy and risky . So basicly a 3208 series is a one shot motor . When it's tired , you buy new ! A freind of mine is down looking at one right now and asked me to haul it home for him if he gets it . I would like to know the acurate weight myself . It is on a trailer ,but we will load the boat and trailer onto a tractor trailer and bring it home . The Cig is a real nice boat though .Magnums are great too but a bit pricier . I like the Tempest as well .This same friend had a 42 tempest and it was a good boat . Good luck !

I think the strategy i was planning was to run the 3208s till they died and repower with the lighter yanmar 420s. I talked to a friend that said the boat weighs 10500 dry, 13000 wet. You might reduce weight by a thousand #s and the added hp should probably push the boat to the upper 50s on top end. that ain't bad on a solid 41 with most if not all emenities including generator. Let me know on the progress of your friend, i would be interested in following his progress. You can private message me if it is more convenient or email is just as good.
